Simple Pleasures

"The Girls"from next door came for a lovely visit the other day, and had a wonderful time poking around our garden. I had fun lazily watching them from my kitchen window and observing them scratching and cackling away to themselves. I thought "what a nice little scene this is! So peaceful and idylic".
They were busy scattering the Photinia leaves about in an effort to uncover all those yummy (to chickens, that is!) morsels hiding underneath.
After a while, I spied Mrs. Chook taking great interest in the old wooden wheelbarrow and realised she had a very fowl gleam in her eye :-(
She had found the motherload!!

By the time I raced outside, she had gathered her brood and - eek!!- had ascended into the mass of violas that I've been so carefully coaxing along the past few weeks!

I have to admit that I did feel a little mean, when I suggested they should perhaps.. "go home now!"
After all..I couldn't blame them for wanting to picnic amongst the flowers in my barrow.
And they did look so darned cute!!!

  1. They are beautiful photos. I think chooks are one of the greatest gifts to us. But maybe not in your barrow.

  12. Whoops! I'm sitting on the other side of the fence and they make a great picture in the wheelbarrow. But I guess they should go home and leave the flowers alone.
Did realize that chickens like to eat flowers!

  17. Trish,
Love this post! Chickens are fun, but one does have to draw the line somewhere.
I know someone who left for work one day, and her dog opened the door and let the chickens in the house. They are such busybodies!

  19. Trish,
I loved this post. : ) We had chickens for several years and I must say I do miss having chickens. The white hen reminded me of our one dear hen Rosie, she lived 9 years and was a wonderful pet.
    Your flowers are beautiful!!

  21. Oh, they are such beautiful photos. I love chooks, hearing the sound of them as they move around the garden and then the excited noises they make after laying an egg. It brings back memories of years ago when we had chooks.

  23. Trish,

It sounds like your "girls" got a bit "naughty" when they decided to play in your flowers that were inside the wheelbarrow, eh? :)

This was truly a cute post Trish, and I enjoyed reading it very much! :)

    Blessings,
