Monday dawned grey and dreary, threatening a cold and rainy day.
By mid-morning the sun appeared yellow and beckoning.
Hastily piling picnic baskets into three cars we turned our noses toward the road out of town.
Boys and fathers led the way,
girls and mothers coming next,
young ladies following behind in third place.
Lunch by the river, swollen after the drought-breaking rains,
then on to the gardens perched on the hills and curling round the slopes.
Whiling away the afternoon haze, we wandered slow and dreamily throughout the summer plantings.
Surprised by the heat and sharpness of glare.
Stopping.
We bend and let fall golden flakes into the pond with childish squeals.
Round the garden once, twice and then into the afternoon sun we drove
to see the overflowing dam.
Water.
Everywhere.
Across our path home.
We are praising God for the rain which has come at last to break the drought here in Australia!
Though many places around the countryside are flooding, people are still welcoming the much needed water. The green is returning to the hills and fields and wildflowers are springing up by the waysides.
When you live in the country you learn to give thanks in ALL circumstances :-)
What a pleasure it was to spend the day simply strolling about and feeding fish with our dearest friends.

we had huge flood over here a few days ago and a snow storm on Christmas day, craziness!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you got some much needed rain, but hope the flooding isn't too severe!
ReplyDeleteMy friend,
ReplyDeleteRain is so needed ~ just like snow here in the mountains. Our Lord knew exactly what to bring in every season.
It was nice to see such beautiful sunshine in your part of the world :)
In His Love,
Maria
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful day. I am glad you got the rain. Everything seems so clean and fresh after a rain.
ReplyDeleteBob is fine and no harm done.He is such a sweek man and we pleasure in one another's presence.
I have always want to come to your beautiful and unique country. It is so beautiful, thanks for sharing.
A parade on the way to a picnic, that sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt has rained all day.The streets are flooded . My swiming pool is overflowing . It has stoped for now . My garden looks like it was blessed by the rain . I put out the bird feeder my son gave me for Christmas before the rain and I saw a red bird feeding in the rain at it. The grandbabies and I enjoyed a quiet day of reading books, playing CandyLand and altogether laziness. Dottie
ReplyDeleteRain is so wonderful! So glad that you are getting rain! I hope that you stay safe from the possible flooding though! Your pictures were beautiful!
ReplyDeleteRain has quenched the earth well and truly this year - perhaps a little to much in some parts of Australia!! But it is lovely to finally have dams overflowing and not needing to water the garden.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed an increase in bugs, spiders and butterflies this year as if they have all come out to celebrate the rain and grown. My garden just wont stop growing!
Love the photos.
Trish, your writing captured me from the first sentence, and the pictures ... so lovely and perfect illustrations. Funny how we take simple pleasures like a much-needed rain for granted so often. Not today, thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteLooks to be an absolutely gorgeous and fantastic outing. We need rain here but I dread its arrival as it causes such a mess with all the dust and sand and there are always new leaks at home because of settling throughout the year. Rains surely can be cleansing and it truly is a pleasure when everything is fresh and green again. Wishing you much peace, love and joy in the new year. Tammy
ReplyDeleteYour day sounded lovely. Hasn't the rain been wonderful, for some perhaps not so much due to the flooding, but wonderful for Australia.
ReplyDeleteHello Trish,I have linked to Dayle's Simple Pleasures site and left a posting ----finally.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I forgot to put my permalink in, and, once again there is my photo and no comment/posting.I hope Dayle has patience with me.

Wow, where you live is so different from where I am! I miss the loveliness of green, though I'm glad it is not hot all the time here. We had a bit of snow this morning, but most of it melted away during the day.
