DRINKIN' FROM MY SAUCER
*
I've never made a fortune
And it's prob'ly too late now;
But I don't worry 'bout that much,
I'm happy anyhow!
And as I go along life's way
Reapin' better than I sowed.
I'm drinkin' from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed!
Haven't got a lot of riches,
And sometimes the going's tough;
But I've got loving ones around me,
And that makes me rich enough!
I thank God for His blessings
And the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinkin' from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed!
I 'member times when things went wrong,
My faith wore somewhat thin;
But all at once the dark clouds broke
And light peeped through again.
So, Lord, help me not to gripe
About tough rows I've hoed.
I'm drinkin' from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed!
If God gives me strength and courage
When the way grows steep and rough,
I'll not ask for other blessings;
I'm already blessed enough!
May I never be too busy
To help others bear their loads.
I'll keep drinkin' from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed!

A favourite Simple Pleasure for me is...
being able to sit quietly with an old and pretty cup and saucer filled with nice hot tea.
Especially when I have some favourite spiced gingerbread biscuits to accompany it!
I have so much to be thankful to Our Lord for.
Slowing down with a good cuppa is one way to take some time to contemplate..
just how gracious He is to me...every single day!
Do you find yourself coming to a thankful stop throughout your day..
because He simply blessed you in some loving little way?
because He simply blessed you in some loving little way?
simply grace..Trish
Love this post, Trish, and I love your teacup and saucer! My cup is overflowing right along with yours. God is good indeed!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christine
Oh Trish...beautiful, beautiful cup and saucer.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that that you served with your tea?
love,
Maria.
Thank you dear friends :-)
ReplyDeleteMaria, the biscuits are german Pfeffernusse or Peppernuts. Iced gingerbread.
I really love ginger and I buy these for a treat for myself- my hubby hates ginger so I get to eat the whole packet!
Mind you I try to spread them out over a week or two, by rewarding myself for some accomplishment - like not eating them all in one day lol!!
bless you..Trish
Trish,
ReplyDeleteI just love that poem/song by Jimmy Dean - it has been a long time since I've heard it. Your Simple Pleasure is surely one of mine also - I like green tea and cookies (biscuits). Yes,God is so good - all the time.

This made me *grin* from ear to ear. I love how this poem just sings of contentment. Your tea cup reminds me of my mom's china tea cups. ( I am a mug kind'a gal...sadly. I think it is because I try to cram as much as I can into each moment and in a cup too, lol.) I also kept thinking of the Little House on the Prairie books when I read this. Ma was offended when I think it was Laura mentioned it wasn't fashionable to drink from the saucer anymore. But Ma claimed that was how the Chinese did it and it was good enough for her too. *grin* But I loved how this poem showed it was a way to catch the overflow of blessings from the Lord. LOVED IT! *grin*

Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteYour blog design is off the charts "Beautiful" so peaceful. The teacup is so pretty!
I enjoyed the poem very much! Your pictures are so lovely, and capture the mood.
Oh The Lord is so worthy of praise rain or shine, I just love Him so very much, and He has been my refuge my strength, and in the midst of my trials I see Him at work in my life, and those around me and that has just put a smile on my face, even when tears are present. It's all about His glory, Amen!
Your right, it is so good to just spend time alone with the Lord expressing our thankfulness, because I know that no matter our circumstances we are always to be thankful.
Awesome post, thank you Trish it blessed me.
God bless,
Michele
Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteI love the Jimmy Dean poem, and your cup and saucer is beautiful. I can't resist Pfeffernusse.(maybe it's a genetic German heritage thing).
Thanks for your comments - and I'll be sure to pass your kiss on to Mum.
God Bless

Dear Trish,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Thank you for sharing the sweet poem, too; I'd never heard it before. What a great image it gives, though!
I just love my old mis-matched teacups and saucers. You've inspired me to get them out and have a proper tea today. :)
Love,
Marqueta
Oh as soon as I arrived I knew it was going to remind me of my grandmother and it did...she drank from her sauce in all the ways in the poem and naturally. Thanks for sharing your simple pleasure...one day I will see her in heaven and we both will drink from overflowing cups
ReplyDeleteHi Trish...Beautiful words of truth of our Gods gifts that we fail to see, and is usually the simple things that top of and overflow from or cup that go unnoticed!!
ReplyDeleteI mostly drink from a mug, but when I use a tes cup it somehow brings a peacefulness and the world slows down, it must be God saying, "be still and hear my voice"!!
Love your background..so petty..!! ♥
Der Trish.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful as always.
I adore that cup and saucer
You share so much treasure with us. I am blessed to see and read it

I love this song and the verse below says it all
ReplyDeleteI thank God for His blessings
And the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinkin' from my saucer,
'Cause my cup has overflowed this song ....
Thanks for sharing
I had not heard that poem in years, but I just love it. Thanks for the beautiful post. Gotta go count my blessings now!
ReplyDeleteThankyou for your encouraging poem, and yes I love to stop and enjoy a cup of tea. Time to contemplate!
ReplyDeleteHello Trish...Thank you so much for the sweet poem and lovely photos. Cup is very pretty. Also, thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! Loved having you.Susan
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful simple pleasure. It's amazing how tea causes you to slow down and think...
ReplyDeleteThat is really a wonderful simple pleasure. I love to take a break from a busy day and drink a cup of flavored coffee. And sit and listen to Him softly whisper to me of his love and I thank him for caring enough for me to send his Son so I might live.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a blessed week end.
What a lovely blog, and a needed reminder for me to just stop for a cuppa tea. Thanks for stopping by The Old Parsonage for a visit!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a tea drinker at all but your lovely thoughts and beautiful cup and saucer has made me stop for a minute to be thankful.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you there - tea and ginger biscuits.
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful.
My evening cup of tea is now in a cup and saucer and I love it:) Feels special.
Oh Trish! I just love this! Thank you for posting it! :o)
ReplyDeleteDelightful...the poem, the beautiful pictures and the thoughts. You've inspired me to grab one of my old cups and saucers and sip in the comfort as I think of all our blessings. I have a box of special teas a friend gave me as a gift but I have to admit that my favorite is still Bigelow's Fruit and Almond. Unfortunately, they discontinued it. My favorite combination is that flavor with shortbread cookies. Yum.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by. Have a beautiful weekend.
Trish,
ReplyDeleteYou sure did get many lovely comments on this post! :)
I enjoyed this poem. It brought a smile to my face. I'm going to be enjoying a hot cup of cocoa soon to warm my soul and heart on this cold and rainy day. :)
Blessings,
-Lady Rose
What a beautiful poem, I love the repeated refrain. I'm going to have to copy it into my hard disk. Also your china cup and saucer are so pretty. I love all things china and a cup of tea just tastes so much better out of china.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned Frank Sherwin when you visited my blog. I didn't know of him but I Googled his name and there's plenty to be found about him him. I loved the art I saw, I think I'd enjoy his paintings on my wall too.
Kathleen.
Your teacup and saucer are beautiful!!!

What a beautiful post, Trish. Love the poem. I finally learned from a dear cyber friend from England just how to make a perfect cuppa and I must say, what an awesome simple pleasure that is, especially when it's in a beautiful, old cup.
