Simply Sweet!

It was Christmas Eve when my father-in-law delivered the mysterious box to me.
Humbly wrapped and filled with white styrofoam and newspaper aplenty,
it gently cradled within it, a world of old roses and gilded dreams.

He'd been de-cluttering the china cabinet that had housed my late mother-in-law's pretty tea sets and sundry porcelain items.
Noticing my displays of floral china scattered throughout our home,
he got to thinking that I might like to have some of her old things to add to my collection.

Little did he know how long I've hoped and waited to receive these precious mementos!
Amongst the items I recently inherited, is this quaint and dear setting of a quiet cottage scene embraced by deeply hued roses, and adorned with gilt edging.

I can still see her  ..carefully holding that cup with her elegant long-nailed fingers poised 'just so', while a slice of passionfruit sponge-cake sits daintily upon the plate.
That was our favourite for quite a long while...
a deliciously soft and golden passionfruity delight from our local bakery.
I never think of sponge-cake without re-visiting those days of taking tea with her!

My husband's beautiful mother was every inch a 'lady' and loved to be so!
I miss her very much and thank the Lord for all the wonderful years we had together.
Holding her cup in my hands today has brought back the sweetest memories,
all rosey and yellowed by time... and our favourite passionfruit icing!

  7. What a wonderful tribute to your late MIL and I'm happy you received some of her china to help relive the tea you sipped together. A gorgeous pattern.
I hope my grandchildren remember me and our tea parties with the same love as described here.

  8. Trish! This precious cup just blesses me, too! Such a sweet little cottage hiding behind the rose bush. Instantly transported to my dream get-away with this image - and all the better should there be tea in the cup!

So sorry about your dear one passing - but, how blessed you are to be able to steward her treasures with thoughts of her daily.

    Joy!
    Kathy

  11. Oh what a wonderful gift indeed! And so blessed to have some of her cups to remember her by.

When I see cups like that I think of my mom. My mom has such a pretty set of tea cups and saucers. I have no idea how I became a mug kind-a gal. But when I do hold a tea cup with tea I think of when I was a little girl and all the tea times I had after dinner with my mom and dad. What wonderful memories those are.

    Blessings and ((HUGS))
