"The emancipation of womanhood began with Christianity and ends with Christianity…
When women in this country achieved equality with men, it was accomplished only by stepping down from the pedestal on which Christianity, chivalry, and idealism had placed her…
So she copied the vices of men – in the name of progress!
It is not progress to go down in a downward direction.
It is not progress to lower and to lose ideals!
No woman ever became lovelier by losing her essential femininity...
America needs young women who will build true homes, whether they live in two rooms – or ten…
whether starched white organdie curtains hang at the windows – or silk damask...
We need homes where harassed husbands may find peace, understanding, refreshment of body and soul…Where children may find the warmth of love…
Where friends may find hospitality, graciousness and joy.
Only out of such homes will go men with strength and courage to …build a new and better world.
To make such homes is, therefore, any woman’s supreme contribution to her country and to her generation."
-Peter Marshall

This passage written long ago by Peter Marshall came to mind the other night,
as my husband exclaimed to me in disbelief that "female boxing" is on the agenda for the upcoming Olympic Games.
He was horrified!
I was not surprised..
This is where we are now.
People will pay to see women hurting each other, and pitting their physical strength against one another, for a title that will soon crumble and be beaten by someone more agressive.
Ah.. but it's all in the name of harmless "sport" you may say.
But how many "sports-persons" have become woeful role-models for youth and older impressionable folk?
Especially those involved in contact-sport, where the "contact" is a euphemistic cover for violent behaviour that is white-washed in a ring or on a field.
A sad day indeed has arrived, when the world will watch women bloody each others faces, and think they are witnessing strong womanly courage and power!
A truly strong woman is caring and nurturing.. and does not willfully inflict pain and harm on others.
A truly strong woman does not give way to temper and violence.. but practises self-control.
A truly strong woman does not take pleasure in injuring another.. but delights in doing good and having a gentle nature.
A truly strong woman is secure in her softness and femininity.. and has nothing to prove to a harsh world that forgets, that to be considered a "lady" is still the noblest title of all !
One she carries well and is not ashamed to own!

Unfortunately, this is where our world is moving towards.
ReplyDeleteI know that movies have been made of the sport and accepted by the mainstream.
Yes, it is a bit horrifying to see a woman or a man beat each other senseless...but the culture seems to want to see this more and more.
His sermon's were very strong and filled with Truth!

I am truly blessed by your words. So true, the strength of a true woman is not measured by her muscles at all.
ReplyDeleteI pinned the words to my pinterest page on "A Strong Woman"
I hope you don't mind, the link is here....

I'm sorry you had the flu! Hope you get fully recovered...you will really appreciate your health.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard living in this age when females rebel against God.
My sons went to an all-boys (Catholic) school...and whenever they would play (in sports) a school that had girls (or even a girl) on the team, they would forfeit...they refused to go up against girls.

I haven't read this quote in awhile but enjoyed reading his truthful words once again. If only women realized what's really important and stopped trying to be like men.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this quote and your thoughts.
I've joined your link-up. :o)
A very well written and timely post, Trish. My heart has become so burdened by what I see women doing today.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are not feeling well, praying for a speedy recovery.
Blessing,
Sue

Our world is such a mess....We need strong women and we have some...but not in the right ways...most are out for them self and don't realize the damage they are doing by not building those strong homes...solid homes with good morals and standards...Instead of woman standing up for each other and not allowing certain things like you said they go against each other...I think your post is wonderful...thank you...have a blessed evening...with love Janice
ReplyDeleteHello Trish,
ReplyDeleteI am linking late because I too have been down with the flu. Actually, my hubby still has it.
I think your post is just wonderful and your words could very well have been my own. I agree whole heartedly with Peter Marshall's words too.
It saddens me to see the way women are behaving today and the worst part is a lot of men seem to like them this way. Heaven help us!
Hope you're feeling better and I will pray for you concerning the asthma. I also have asthma but not that bad. I wish you a lovely and healthy weekend, my friend. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your nice comment. I appreciate you!
Blessings,
Sandi
