Heart & Home link-up..Tasha Tudor

I've been having quite a lot of fun in the garden this week.. and getting a bit behind in other things!
Last Saturday my hubby and I spent the afternoon digging shrubs, bulbs and trees out of a friend's yard and bringing home specimens he no longer wanted, but are suitable for our own yard :-)
So I've had to be outdoors a lot the past few days, getting them into the ground before they go into shock and die on us!
This week is also the time when Tasha Tudor fans celebrate this amazing lady who lived her life in an almost storybook fashion.
She herself was a beloved writer and illustrator of childrens books and an avid gardener as well!
I'm sure many of you know her already and have been inspired by her attitude to life and her courage to live a little "differently" from our modern-day culture.

I first came across her in the late '80s while reading an article in Victoria magazine.
She intrigued me and I loved the images of this frail looking but strong character who dressed in period costume and lived like someone from 200 years ago.
I loved her quaint dresses and aprons and the way she always had a kerchief tied around her bun and a shawl around her shoulders.

She loved to take tea and observed a regular ritual of stopping for afternoon tea.
I felt an affinity with her from the start and would have enjoyed spending a day with her chatting, walking through her beautiful garden and sitting by the fire sipping tea  :-)
She sometimes had children join her for teatime, and often shared her pretty dresses with  fortunate young ladies, who were allowed to choose a lovely gown from Tasha's wardrobe to wear for a little while.
What a lovely gesture.
I'm sure they must have felt very special in her wonderfully feminine period dresses and lace shawls!

Here's to Tasha...a lady who's legacy lives on in all those who love beauty and innocence and who have picked up her rallying cry - "Take Joy!"

  1. I have heard of Tasha Tudor, but unfortunately, I don't know much about her except what I have read on certain ladies blogs. She certainly sounds like a delightful lady. I wish there was a book written about her so I could read it.

  2. Good morning Trish,
Tasha Tudor was a unique character and I enjoy reading about her. I had heard of her when I started blogging and then I won a Giveaway which included the book about her life. I had hoped to do a post about her but I have a lot on my plate right now with my mother going into a nursing home; very stressful!
Thank you for your wonderful post honouring this special lady and thank you for joining me for tea today. Have a delightful day, my friend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  5. Praying blessings on your time in the garden. It always tickles me pink that you are at the opposite stage than we are. As we are coming to a end of our growing season you are just starting! I look forward to your lovely pictures. I am sorry I have been so sparse and hope to right that at the end of September. Life is soooooooo very full till then. But I had to pop in and say hi and blessings and ((HUGS))

  7. I love your article about Tasha Tudor and the clothes she wore. I've often thought I'd like to dress that way too, because I am drawn to modest clothing and there aren't very many patterns or clothing stores with modest apparel. I read another blog that said that if women want to be treat respectfully, maybe they should dress femininely and that's so true.
