Well - what an amazing adventure I've had this past week!
Last Friday hubby and I left home to travel 3 hours away to Sydney where we were meeting up with some very special people the next day.
As we got about 4kms out of town the sky opened up and a very unseasonal fall of soft snow began to descend upon us.
At first we were delighted as we love snow and so we were enjoying the pretty and unexpected flurries that were escorting us on our way.
But our delight turned to concern when the snow just got heavier and heavier and began to impede our driving!
It got so heavy in fact, that we found ourselves stranded on the road along with many others who had come to a complete standstill on the now very slippery and dangerous highway :-(
We waited..and waited..hoping the snow would ease up so we could be on the move again.
Cars were spread all over the road - many facing the wrong way or sideways because they had lost grip and slid out of control!
It was very scarey to watch cars sliding around in front of us and I praise God that nobody was hurt!
We held hands and prayed for protection over everyone and for some rain to wash the snow off the road.

We held hands and prayed for protection over everyone and for some rain to wash the snow off the road.
A little rain fell but no rescue team was in sight, and after sitting for 2 hours my hubby and some others found a way to push some cars into a position where a few 4 wheel drive vehicles could weave through us all, and make tracks for us to follow them out.
Incredibly, it took us nearly 3 hours to move 6kms to the nearest town and we were just so glad to be off the slippery road by that stage!
We all hoped to get a steaming cup of hot tea or coffee to settle our nerves but they had a power blackout when we arrived. Thankfully it was restored before we left and I can tell you - my hot chocolate never tasted so good!!
Locals were having fun building snowmen and kids were out with boogy-boards to go sliding down the white hills and people were simply making the most of the situation.
Hubby and I were actually forced to spend more than an hour in this huge Antique store, while we waited for graders to clear the road up ahead.
I know, I know! What a selfless sacrifice we had to make - it was such a trial being surrounded by all that pretty stuff, lol!
We finally reached our destination at tea-time that evening and collapsed with relief.
Normally it takes us 3 hours to get there but last Friday it took 9 very tense and tiring hours to get over the mountains and down to the city!
Was it all worth it?
Oh yes! For the reason we went through all that was to be gathered together with some of our family as we celebrated an early Christmas party!
The next day was bright, clear and sunny for our annual family get-together.
Just as we'd expect it to be because after all - Spring is half over!
It's not supposed to snow like that -it's usually tee shirt and sunhat weather.
Well, whatever the weather, it's always wonderful to be with our loved ones and I dare say we'd just about walk through fire to be with them!
We had a ball in spite of the dramas of getting there, and I laughed when I saw the fabulous Christmas cake my nephew's wife made for us -
How ironic - and delicious too, lol!
Well, we are back home now - where we walked into another "adventure" - but I'll save that one for another post :-)
Hope you all had a good week..blessings, Trish xx
Oh aye, we are so glad to know you are safe and enjoyed your family gathering. Snow in Oz!
ReplyDeleteThat was an adventure! Untimely snowstorms can be very stressful.

Hi Trish
ReplyDeleteLast week had some surprising weather in it we heard about the snow on the news, I have been to Orange in the middle of winter with no snow but it is very different to get it in spring, how did you garden fare no damage I hope.
Love Merle..........
Trish,I am so amazed that we can get so much snow in Australia. It has been such a cold winter, but in Spring. I think the weather has gone crazy all over the world.
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased you made it safely and had a good time with your family. xx
Oh my! I don't have much experience with snow except for one time when my husband and I were coming home from the mountains and light flurries began to form. I actually started to panic, but fortunately, the snow storm didn't get heavier. I think I would be scared too - being surrounded by all that snow. I'm glad to hear that everyone made it safe to their destinations.
ReplyDeleteThe antique store looked lovely! I wouldn't have minded to spend time in there. Is there any chance that you bought a little antique goodie while you were browsing some of the stores? :)
I'm glad that you enjoyed time with family. The cake looks so cute. I bet it was delicious, and I'm sure it didn't taste like snow, tee hee. :)
Blessings to you!

ReplyDeleteThanks ladies - it was quite a trip - but so lovely to see my family again!
ReplyDeleteMara, I was too worried about the weird weather to concentrate on picking up an antique, lol!
We've never seen such a lot of snow in October before!

Hi Trish! It's great to be back in Blogland! I tried to link-in with you for a tea post this week but now I know why you didn't have Mr. Linky up! What a freak storm - lovely but dangerous! And through it all God is ultimately in control and knows how to settle the soul with an hour's rest in an antique shop! Hope you'll be back for tea amd linkys this week!
ReplyDeleteJoy!

Dear Trish,
ReplyDeleteEvery accident we ever had took place in the wintertime so I know how tiring and incredibly hard on the head it can be traveling in weather like that!
I am so glad you arrived safely and enjoyed yourselves. The cake is adorable! Have a wonderful week, my friend.
Blessings,
Sandi
