Link-up time ~ winds of change

We have been making some big changes around our home this past week.
I no longer have carpet in my lounge-room for one thing!
You see we are going for a new style of decor - kinda like "country-mountain meets surf 'n'sand"!
My hubby is a beach boy from way back and he misses the ocean a lot.
Seeing we now live half a day's drive to the sea, he doesn't get to go surfing nearly as much as he used to!
So I decided it was only fair to make some decor changes that will help him feel more relaxed and give a country beach look to the place.
One thing I knew had to be changed was the flooring.
Wall to wall carpeting is very nice but it's not in keeping with the theme we want to bring in.

So hubby lifted some carpet to see what the floorboards were like in our dining area extension, but it turned out that the floor there is ugly old partical board -YUCK!!
So the carpet stayed down out there.
He then wondered what was really in the lounge-room, because he thought he saw floorboards everywhere when he went under the house to check.

Well...we very carefully pulled back a small corner of carpet to see and...SURPRISE!SURPRISE! it was all cyprus pine floorboards which are already POLISHED!-YAY!!!!

We got an instant change to the look of the room and my dear hubby doesn't have to polish the floor :-)
He had just said to me if there are floorboards here I think we'll just paint them because polishing is a big job.
It was like being handed a gift to find we don't need to polish or paint!
We pulled that old carpet up like kids opening a Christmas present, lol!

Not only the lounge but the hallway got a new look too.
I had already moved all our furniture around during the week and culled a lot of things to make us feel a bit cooler on these hot days.

So now the sofas and TV are out in the dining area and the table and chairs and white dresser are in the lounge-room and it just looks so different!

before carpet was removed

See the slatted wall panels? Friends gave them to us last year.
They were in their garden and porch area. We had them in our yard for a while too, but the polish had worn off and so I thought of a way to use them inside instead.

They've now been painted and will be wall-mounted and have a shelf above them for displaying things - like my Sydney beach photos that have been waiting to be hung!
The slats will be useful to hang things from too.

It's so nice to see the light reflected on the timber floor now.
No more carpet in front of the back doors - yipee!!
The fireplace is next in line for an update over the Christmas holidays.
That is..unless we need to use it, of course.
After last week's heatwave we are back to fleecy jumpers.
The wind is blowing an icey gale!!
Weather's made a strange change today  :-o(

So..what changes have you been making lately - care to tell?

  1. Hello, my friend! Your wood floor looks beautiful! I love the color of it. Who would have thought that lovely wood was hiding under the carpet :) I wish we would get some colder weather. We have been having unusually warm weather here in the mountains of Colorado. We should have snow by now, but instead we are having teperatures in the upper 50's.
Thanks for your delightful post - enjoy the rest of your week!

    Hugs,
    Stephanie

  5. Hi Trish,
Floorboards are great so cool in summer and you just use mats in winter to keep warm, polishing is a big job it's the moving all the furniture around that a pain and waiting for it all to dry. Your house looks so nice and fresh.
Your right the weather is crazy at the moment.
    Love Merle......

  10. Those pine wood floors look so nice and shinny. You're right, the room does look very different without the carpet, in a good way, of course. :)

  14. Hello Trish,
Your wood floors are just beautiful! My hubby grew up on the beach too and I spent time camping there when I was growing up so the beach is very important to us too.

Thank you for your prayers for my son. He's been through quite an ordeal which turned out to be much more serious than we first realized.
Thank you too for linking up to my HOME. I appreciate you and your friendship, my friend. Enjoy your weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

I wanted to stop by and thank you for your kind comment on my post about the mall shooting near our home. Today's news from Connecticut is even more devastating.
