Heart & Home linkup

Our kettle has been on the boil quite a lot this past week!
Now that winter is over and spring has sprung
we've been busy catching up on some garden chores.

This corner of our backyard used to house our chickens
and is way overdue for a clean-up and makeover.

We put some lattice up to help screen out the water tanks which are on the top of our hill.
Once the Banksia Rose bush covers the lattice we will have a nicer view from this area.
They didn't bother me too much when we first moved here,
but now they are being cluttered up by phone antennas and so on.
We live on the high point in town and so more and more companies are erecting antennas on these tanks.
I'm aware of possible health risks and it makes me nervous to have them so close to us!

The chooks did an amazing job of flattening the ground around this spot
and the soil really needs building up again now.
It doesn't look very interesting at the moment,
but some bushes and flower beds will be going in here
as well as some vegies for summer.

Our peach and nectrine have come into bud
and this week the blossoms will open up and grace our yard with their delicate beauty.
They don't last very long.
It's wonderful to watch and I'm always sorry to see the pretty flowers fall, but it must be this way if we are to get any fruit from the trees.
Today was very gusty and I stood watching them from my window and praying that the barely-born blossoms would not be carried away on the wind!

To calm myself down, I took some solace in a nice hot cup of tea and a slice of banana caramel pie.
I used one of my old favourite blue and white cups and saucers made by Churchill in England.
Blue and white china always makes me feel good :-)

And I don't feel guilty about the calories in the pie (or the seashell chocolates!), because I'll have plenty of opportunity to work them off over the next few days as we continue the spring saga in our back garden!

So how's your week going so far, my friends?
I hope you are having a good one.

blessings.. Trish xx

  1. It seems that in both spring and fall there's always a clean-up needed in the garden.

Once the days become a little cooler (hopefully soon!), we'll get out and do some needed repairs and preparations for winter in our yard.

I really like your teacup and you're right...blue and white dishes just make the world a better place! :o)

  4. Hi! Thanks for that info...it is a shame there are bad people who like to hack other people's belongings!

I love your arbors. I've been bugging my husband for one :)

I am probably going to end my blog. Not for that reason, just because I want to simplify my mind more. love, andrea

  6. We live on a hill in our little town, but the water towers and antennae are on the outskirts. I can understand your concern and hope they don't increase too many - you'd think they'd conflict! Love blue and white dishes always ! Your pie sounds perfect to go with a relaxing tea! I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
    Kathy
