Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window...
it is overcast and intermittently raining today, which is a surprise to me as I expected a sunny day.

I am thinking...
we won't be able to go get the load of soil that we planned for the garden beds this weekend.

I am thankful...
that at least I don't have washing to get dry.

From the learning rooms...
I am studying about "The New Monastics" movement in the church and finding much inspiration.

In the kitchen...
not much is happening ..we eat very casually on the weekends.
Probably will have a stir fry for tea tonight.

I am wearing...
a very chic and hot wheatpack on my left shoulder - woke up with a stiff neck this morning :-(

I am creating...
a stepping stone path in the backyard..
well that is to say, my hubby is doing the heavy lifting and I am plotting it's course.

I am going...
to be so glad when I can turn my head to the left again!

I am wondering...
how come I went to bed quite ok and woke up with a screaming headache for the 2nd day in a row!

I am reading...
The Wisdom of Stability: Rooting Faith in a Mobile Culture written by Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove Cofounder of the "new monastic" community Rutba House in Durham, N.C.
I am very interested in reading about the emerging 'monastic' expressions within christianity - especially amongst non-catholic believers.
I'm finding this book makes so much good sense in it's appeal to stop church-hopping and commit to a 'community' and place for the sake of the Gospel and personal growth!

I am hoping...
tomorrow is a nice sunny day so my dear hubby can enjoy himself outdoors.

I am looking forward to...
catching up with friends, if all works out well tomorrow.

I am hearing...
sparrows chirping in the banksia rose bush and raindrops and blue wrens tapping on the windows.

Around the house...
things are laid-back..I'm catching up on some blogs and hubby is watching TV.

I am pondering...
why christians are getting involved with Halloween by decorating their homes with witches and occult symbols... didn't our Saviour come to deliver us from such darkness? (just sayin')

One of my favorite things...
is chocolate-coated ginger..which I found on sale the other day and spoiled myself with a box of it - just a small box mind you  :-)

A few plans for the rest of the week:
spend more time in God's holy Word
get better quality sleep (hopefully)
wash the bedroom walls and air the house out

Here is a picture for thought I am sharing...

This nun must very dedicated to be out ringing bells in this kind of weather!
I think it looks like it's raining in this photo;
but my hubby thinks she's in a dust-storm and that is why her veil is flying about.
What do you think?

  1. Its been a funny day here, rain in the morning then clearing up and becoming warm so I did a load of washing to only find out it was raining again. I have left the sheets on the line for a second rinse!! and using the dryer for everything else.

Nothing worse than a stiff neck, it can really ruin a day so I hope yours gets better soon.

I am very puzzled by Christians celebrating Halloween - it doesn't make any sense to me. I went past a shop today and all these people where buying Halloween "stuff" and I was saddened as in Australia we don't usually celebrate it but I think it is changing - any excuse for a party.

  2. Hope your neck gets to feeling better soon.
We don't celebrate Halloween. I don't understand why some Christians do celebrate it. It's Satan's high holy day. I think if people knew what it is really all about, they wouldn't celebrate it.
The nun looks like she is out in a very heavy, windy mist.:-)
Blessings and have a nice weekend,
    Anne

  4. Hi Trish,

I agree with you in regard to Halloween. Many homes in our neighborhood are decorated, and it makes me sad. My husband and I are going to head to the beach tomorrow night, which will be Halloween night here. It's so awkward staying home and not answering the door, when little kids are knocking.

I like the picture of the Nun, it looks like a scene from a movie. I'm gonna have to side with your husband in that it looks like a dust storm :o)

God bless you, and your week
    Big hugs ~ Michele
