Every wet and grey wint'ry June, we get a weekend to brighten our spirits up
by visiting the annual Antique Fair in our neck of the woods.
My hubby was one of the stallholders in past years and dealt in large pieces of antique furniture which he'd restored back to beautiful originalty.
So he particulary enjoys seeing english or french dressers and dining settings etc. but sadly for him, each year the stalls have increasingly become more focused on what are called "smalls" in the trade.
Mainly lots of silverware, small ornaments, glass and beautiful china make up the displays nowdays, and one is utterly spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a favourite piece!
These two Shelley settings were my pick last Sunday.
The lighting in the centre made it difficult to take really good photos.
Nevertheless, I think you can see how very lovely these are even in bad light!
This red and gold Royal Worster set looked stunning - pity one of the saucers had a huge crack in the upper corner.
Still, it would make a wonderful and dramatic display on a sideboard or in a cabinet.
I spent quite some time perusing the pretty figurines at the Royal Doultan stand.
Not so much for Toby jugs that were there, but for the full figures in costume such as the well-known Balloon Seller etc.
And of course, I had to check out the various trays of vintage jewellry just around the corner!!
My favourite stallholder was missing this year :-(
I always look forward to visiting their lace shop and getting lost amongst all the wonderfully embroidered vintage cloths and bridal veils that they have been enthralling me with for many years.
I hope they come back next year - it's usually the highlight of the day for me!
I did eventually manage to find some beautiful lacework from Greece though :-)
Do you want to know what was the best part of my day out?
I actually had a chance to spoil myself by buying something at this years Fair - but I didn't come home with anything!
Not that that's unusual, mind you..
I found that even though I really liked a number of things and could have brought them home with me, the desire to possess them was just not strong enough.
The best reward for me was to be able to spoil myself visually by appreciating the beauty of artistically made objects, without the need to have them!!
Besides..I've got more than enough things to dust at home already ;-)

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely visual treat:)
ReplyDeleteI am having a hard time picking out what I like best!
Oh, so many pretty things! Thanks for hosting :)
ReplyDeleteTrish, that looks like a lovely day out. I know what you mean,to enjoy just admiring the beauty without having to own it. I love lace too. It would have been nice if you could have topped off the day with some lace therapy. Looks like a very big fair. We don't have anything as grand here. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for hosting xxoo
ReplyDeleteHi Trish I was up your way last weekend and it sure was cold. I like Orange in the summer not so sure in the winter.
ReplyDeleteMerle.
Oh Trish! I want to go. I love looking at just those kinds of things. I'll take home those blue dishes, please :) Looks like you had a really fun time. I know what you mean about feeling good about not "having" to buy something. I'm really particular now about adding to my "dustables." I try to stick with what I need these days. But browsing is so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your day!
Love
Patricia xo
Hello Trish,
ReplyDeleteWhat a variety of pretties to admire! I am simply swooning over the first Shelley pattern; love those colours! It's fun to get out and take in all the beauty of different kinds of art, including pretty china! Thank you for another lovely party, my friend. Hope you're having a delightful day.
Blessings and hugs,
Sandi
Dear Trish,
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the cups in the first photo; they look like my favorite dress! So nice to see you out and enjoying something lovely; it does lift the spirits, doesn't it?
Love,
Marqueta
What beautiful sets of china...but how often do we use them nowadays?
ReplyDeleteHi Trish,
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to an Antique Fair in a long time. It's one of my favourite things to do..BUT..I have a hard time controlling my spending...there's always something SPECIAL looking at me .
It's easier not to go , than to say 'no thank you'
I truely admire your attitude.
Barb ....xxx
Oh, I do love a good antique show! Thank you for hosting!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Oh Trish, I would have loved to have joined you! I probably wouldn't have brought home anything either, although the lace would have been tempting!
ReplyDeleteLovely post - Blessings,
Kim
I love those pretty tea cups. I am a tea cup buff. I have 27 of various patterns and sizes and I love to use them to bless people. Peaceful time to talk over a cup of tea in a pretty cup and some cookies is always a good thing. Have a blessed week. Anita
