The Rose Family
by Robert Frost
"The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose -
But were always a rose!"
One of the lovliest roses in our family was my late mother-in-law.
She loved pretty floral china and collected some beautiful tea cups for our special family gatherings.
Her delight was to have us all come for afternoon tea so she could bring out her best linens, lace and china and serve us passionfruit spongecake!
It's been 13 years since she went home to glory and we all miss her charming and 'childlike' ways.
Ever the "lady" - her gentle influence on her loved ones is still bearing sweet fruit today, and we like nothing more than to set our own tea-table with vintage lacey cloths and some of her pretty cups and dinner bells!
Her motherly 'presence' is very tangible whenever we hold one of Mum's teacups to our lips or eat passionfruit spongecake off her vintage plates.
Her sweet, feminine joy in life and legacy of love and lovliness will always be with us...

Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post and tribute to your mother-in-law! The cake looks wonderful and such pretty china too. Thank you for sharing your thoughts today. I had computer woes on the weekend but did manage to get my tea party up. Have a beautiful day, my friend.

The passion fruit sponge cake looks good. I've never tired that before!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the rose poem. It was cute, and the rose photographs were lovely!
Blessings! :)
Your MIL sounds like was a fine woman to have had tea with. Saving fancy linens and china for a rainy day may never come so they should be brought out for all occasions.
