Aged beauty..

A few weeks ago we went for a drive to enjoy the countryside
and to see what interesting places we might come across along the way.

Time moves rather slowly in our part of the world
and folks appreciate holding on to the heritage of their past.
Some local villages are left standing in pretty much the same state as over a century ago.

The 'wheels of change' are not something that is readily seen, or heard turning around them!

For some people, the fact that "progress" is on an endless hold might seem quite depressing - but not to us.
There's a certain charm about old villages that never change or modify!
We actually love to find old homes that have been quietly left to the elements and given over to the weathering effects of dis-use and time.

This homestead was abandoned to a flock of brown and gold sheep and we spent some magical moments watching the shenanigans of the wooly inhabitants, as they scrambled over the porch and under the shady verandahs.

I think slowing down to observe old things and muse about "way back when" is something for quiet hearts and calm minds.
There are lessons to be learned in just patiently observing, without giving in to the urge to "improve" things all the time.
Seeing beauty in gently aging buildings also helps one value the changes in one's own soul, and is testimony to the fact that 'youth and perfection' eventually follow the same path as all that has gone before - and that it's actually okay to grow old.

In fact it can be rather beautiful..!

  4. I live in a 220 year old cottage, so old to me gives me comfort.

I appreciate the wisdom of age, the patina of a life well lived, with all the intricacies and beauty, is truly the reason I am so drawn to this way of life.

Yes, modern thinking and technology and such are always around me, but here in the cottage, I can still see the merging of both ways of life.

    Beautiful as always dear friend.

Also, thank you so much for your beautiful words and your prayers during this difficult time. It is on the mend, but only because Our Lord is guiding us.

    Blessings to you today,

    m.

  8. I know your part of the woods and having been up that way not so long ago I agree things change very little it was sad to see so many empty houses in Eugowra a lot were passed on to the children when the parents died but they don't want to live there but go for holidays and weekends so they are empty most of the time, it has an strange silence about them not the sounds I remember from the past but it was raining most of the time maybe better in summer.
    love Merle....

  10. Oh, yes, Trish - you have taken me with you on your little wanderings today and I am so blessed. I feel ever so much a foreigner in this era - but I confess, I am not physically hardy enough for the day to day realities of the simple life these photos celebrate. I think I might need some staff to help so I should be sure to marry well. LOL

Anyway - I take heart in keeping these ancient landmarks alive for the next generation with my homeschool classes.

Hoping to link up with you this week - got it - you put it up on Sunday . . .

    Joy!
    Kathy
