First, you wait until Summer holidays hit you with a heatwave and the bushfire rating is in the "extreme" range.
Then you take a good look around your dry and parched backyard, which has never been in a worse state than now.
Then you decide to remove all the "grass" from at least one third of the yard.
And you also work on extending the framework on the overhead arbor while you are out in all that dry dusty heat.
Then you lay sand over the exposed ground to prepare it for laying pavers,
that stretch as far as possible towards the back fence.
While you grab a quick rest in a little bit of shade, you plan on where to reposition the clothesline and build the outdoor pizza oven.
Then you decide to start work on the opposite side of the new paving
by putting down framework for timber decking to step out onto from your backdoor..
which you are also thinking of replacing once the "groundwork" is all finished..
which won't be this week of course, seeing that your holidays are now over and hubby is back at 'work'!
Hmmm...methinks a Staycation might be something "for the birds"!
Next year we're leaving town!!lol!
But in the meantime, it will be lovely to have our new space to relax in, and not have to worry about mowing it ever again.
So that's a little glimpse of what I've been up to these past few weeks while my hubby was on a break.
He has worked wonders and I truly appreciate everything he's done to make our home more comfy :-)
Right now, I am waiting for decking to be delivered so that we can start nailing it down tonight when he gets back home from work.
And he wonders why I keep saying that he needs to learn to relax more -sheesh!lol!
(btw, this was written with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek! ~big grin~ )

I like that word "staycation". They are the best kind, because there are so many lasting effects, It's like the energy bunny that keeps right on giving. Your patio looks wonderful and I know there are going to be many days and evenings of enjoyment. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue

Hi Trish.....I just showed Mum this post and she thinks the work you and the Woodman have done is wonderful. It gives you so much more outdoor living space..
ReplyDeleteI love it too....
Mum wanted to know what 'sheesh' means and I told it's just an expression of exasperation....
Have a good day
God Bless

Sounds as if you are building a little paradise near you and think how often you will be able to relax there...A vacation (elsewhere) is highly over rated (here now, gone than after!).
