I've been thinking about St Francis of Assisi quite a bit lately.
He has always attracted me by his radical way of living for God,
and his passion for the poor.
I often think about becoming more Franciscan,
and living a simpler less materialistic life myself.
The love St Francis had for God's creatures is very well known and I am meditating on this too today,
as I keep watch over a wild Princess Parrot that we found injured in our garden 2 nights ago.
He is sitting in a cage on my dining table and shivering at the thunder and lightening from the hailstorm that has just erupted over us.
I wonder if he is missing the familial companionship of his flock?
Does he feel abandoned and confused?
He is a very gentle bird who shows no aggression nor fear of us,
and does not panic when we are near him or are placing food in his cage.
and does not panic when we are near him or are placing food in his cage.
I hope our new little friend feels safe and content here,
and if he stays perhaps we'll call him Francesco for the beauty of his heart as well as plumage...
or maybe just 'Frank' for his simple child-like trust in us!
How sweet. We love birds but we definitely don't find parrots in our back yard! Just blue jays and juncos lately. His colors are so soft and blend into each other so nicely.
ReplyDeleteHi Trish, So happy to see a new post this morning. I always enjoy reading your blog. I've missed you! :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird. I hope he recovers quickly. I can't imagine having wild parrots in my backyard...not something we have in Canada, lol!
St. Francis is a favourite of mine as well and for the same reasons you mentioned. He lived an amazing life.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Trish,
ReplyDeleteHe does have lovely colours and still looks young to me but he has defined wing and tail feathers. Our little dove has lost his tail so that is the last to be replaced with adult feathers so he will be with us a bit longer plus the weather is just too wet.
Merle.....
Frank is beautiful! Hope he recovers. I would think you would have to let him go again since he is wild, but then again, maybe he can adapt. Don't know much about parrots, but he sure is pretty.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back!
Blessings,
Anne♥
Oh Trish...how lovely to read your words again :)
ReplyDeleteYour new friend is just adorable. It is going to take a bit for him to adjust to his new surroundings...but it will happen, because the attention and care you are giving him will become a blessing to him :)
St. Francis...a great example of a surrendered soul.
awwwwh, how sweet is he? and such a lovely post. I think we could all take heed by what you say. I try very hard to live a simple uncluttered life. When I am home I feel this, but on venturing out,it's all hustle and bustle and materialistic. Ahhh,to be home. x
ReplyDeleteHi Trish,
ReplyDeleteFrancesco/ Frank is an inspired name for your new little friend.
I hope he stays.....
I like St Francis, too.
Have a lovely day

Awwww, what a pretty little bird! I'm so glad that you found him and can give him a home. I love the name you chose for him too, so sweet and applicable!
ReplyDeleteWe had a cockatiel once. Not quite as pretty as your bird though! :)
What a cute little bird, have been thinking of getting one lately, beautiful colours on yours.
ReplyDeleteGod's work is amazing. Look at that exquisite little birdie!~
ReplyDeleteHe was fortunate to be looked after by you.
Trish, I have my new blog up and running now: do visit if you wish to,
God bless x

Hi Trish! What a cutie this little fellow is! I have always been fearful to have a bird as a pet. I like to cuddle with my pets - and have two cats who do just that. I daresay they would not welcome a feathered friend very kindly. Blessings to you with all your warm air - it's cold here!!
ReplyDeleteJoy!
