Bet you weren't expecting that one, eh?lol!
Some of you may have noticed that I've been very quiet around the blogsphere lately.
Well to tell the truth, I haven't exactly been feeling too inspired to write anything much.
You see, this year has brought about some rather drastic changes in our life and I've had to adjust to having my hubby at home every day instead of out working.
Like many of your dear husbands, my Dodger was retrenched earlier this year and has not been able to find another job so far.
Soooo...that means we've needed to make some changes in our daily routines and how we manage our budget.
We are trying to get rid of all the grass in our backyard and replace it with garden beds which will grow herbs and vegies for the table - and of course we have to have some pretty flowers to cheer us up too :-)
So that has been taking up a lot of my time and energy these days.
Hubby is managing to keep himself busy with woodworking projects around the house and yard and is nearly finished constructing his outdoor pizza oven.
The days are getting much colder here, and we're really looking forward to enjoying some home-grown home-made woodfired pizzas and bread soon!
Of course..we'd both prefer for my husband to have a paying job outside the home, but things don't always work out the way we want or would prefer them to be.
So we just try to make the best of everyday and keep leaning on the Lord to provide our needs and help us through this dificult time.
I know many of you are in the same boat as us and I keep you in my prayers and hope for brighter days for us all!
And now...an explaination for the curious out there :-)
"Lucky and the Dodger" are simply the nicknames that my dear old Dad had for hubby and me.
I remember my father using my proper christian name only once in my hearing. It happened at primary school when he was chatting to some of my classmates - and only after he'd used "Lucky" in the conversation and had to explain to them that he was talking about me!
Actually my full title was Lucky-Legs but he left the 'legs' bit out thank heavens. I would never have lived it down otherwise, lol!
According to Mum I was given this honourable title because I was the last girl born into the family..so I was "lucky" and made it through just in time.
(hmmm...pehaps this explains why I always seem to run a bit late in life!)
My Dad was a poet and a true word-man and had a real penchant for using nicknames or monikers and "Dodger" was his term of endearment for my beloved hubby.
Trust me -it was NOT because he thought my man was 'dodgy' or lazy!!!lol!
Love the new name and look of your blog Trish. I am so sorry to here about your hubbies loss of work. It is happening so much these days. Not a good feeling. I do hope things work out for you both. xx
ReplyDeleteI like it :) m.
ReplyDeleteHi Trish,
ReplyDeleteThings have changed a bit, It's not bad when you get used to having them around all the time or he might get another job.
It's a good idea to get the garden going with fresh vegs anyway they are always much better than the shops
All the best Merle...........
Oh Trish,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your husband's job loss. Your wonderful attitude is sure to help during this time.
Growing a garden and having a pizza oven are great ideas.
We are learning how to do things ourselves whenever possible. Actually, we are enjoying it!
God Bless!
His lost his job? Oh Trish...I am sorry for that, but remember that Our Lord knows and the situation is under His Care. I still like the new name :) Be of good cheer my friend...He has overcome the world! m.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, love the banner and adding you in my prayers! God knows your woe and has a plan, fear not!
ReplyDeleteHang in there,
Ahh, your chicks are adorable! I often think about getting some, but haven't yet. My dad always had chickens and they make me feel nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteHi Trish! I am very sorry. This is something that can happen to any of our husbands, any time, as everyone's economy stinks! And to our grown children, which scares me more since they are starting out with large mortgages.
ReplyDeleteBut your house and gardening looks wonderful. And it is a good time for your husband to do things like the pizza oven (and gardens).
It was a bit hard for me to carry on my chores when I had no more preschoolers and my husband took off vacation days. I felt like I had to look more busy..ha...and his constant listening to the radio bothered me. I was beginning to dream that we needed two homes next to each other when he retires...But eventually I adjusted. (After 12 years!.ha)
Life has changes along the way. But I pray your husband finds another job.
What a wonderful way to name the chickens !!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband's job. I will be thinking of you and I hope he will find something very quick !!
