Look what I have!
It's a bowl of those yellow bendy things - you know - those things that monkeys like!
Bananas! That's right - they're called ba..na..nas. I remember now :-)
All jokes aside..it's been ages since we could afford to fill our fruit bowl with these family favourites.
After floods wiped out the Queensland crop at the beginning of the year banana prices immediately went sky high in the fruit-shops and supermarkets.
$15 per kilo has been the average price for months now.
We had been paying around a dollar just for one single small banana not so long back.
Well today as I did my weekly grocery shopping, I was just in time to see these very ripe bananas being marked down to a mere $2 a bag - so I grabbed them to bring home for baking cakes and freezing :-D
Thank You Lord!!
I have plans for these beauties..starting with breakfast tomorrow!
Bananas are this week's Simple Pleasures for me!!
Banana nut bread is one of my favorite things to do with very ripe bananas. I like it warm from the oven, with a fresh cup of coffee. Oh yeah!
ReplyDeleteIf that happened in the U.S. I would definitely have cravings for bananas! I love bananas. Our costco store (bulk store) has bananas for 3 pounds for $1.39 (around 8 bananas), the grocery stores have it for twice that price. love, andrea
ReplyDeleteDear Trish,
ReplyDeleteMm, bananas! We love them in our smoothies; they make it much creamier than with other fruits alone.
Love,
Marqueta
I like to freeze them and use them in smoothies. :-)

ReplyDeleteI am sure my young master D would love to help you eat them, he has been eyeing them off in other peoples supermarket trolleys for months now, He asked me yesterday why they are all bent?
my usual answer came 'because that's the way God made them' I am sure that our hubbies could come up with a much better story??
Love to you
Nell
Ohhh yum your house is going to smell divine! Enjoy every last bite indeed. Even though our prices are not THAT high they are still a big treat here at our house. We can only get one or two per person in the house but not lately. When our envelope is empty for groceries then we have to wait for another day.

Well, Trish After reading this thankful simple pleasure post, I will not complain anymore about our 58 cents per pound bananas,.It seems I do take a lot for granted from time to time, and I am so happy that you found some at this price, enjoy all those goodies you will make.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet words of encouragements, I so appreciate them.
Hope you are continuing to enjoy your spring time, as we are beginning to have our fall, and it is such a great relief. Enjoy your weekend.
Hugs,
Sue
Thank you Lord for blessing Trish with these affordable fruits ...
ReplyDeleteI made Banada Bread last week and it was sooo good! I'm so happy that you'll be able to enjoy some banana treats, too. And how great you found them at such a low price.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the price of bananas has gone down in price in your part of the world. I had no idea they were charging those kinds of prices, yikes! However, I must confess that I'm not a big banana eater.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I hope that you are enjoying your weekend.
Fortunately I strongly dislike bananas so I don't really care how expensive they are!! Sorrry all banana lovers. I once had liquid medicine that was flavored banana, I had such a reaction to the medicine I could eat bananas ever again:)
