Simple Pleasures~ Bananas

Look what I have!
It's a bowl of those yellow bendy things - you know - those things that monkeys like!
Bananas! That's right - they're called ba..na..nas.  I remember now :-)

All jokes aside..it's been ages since we could afford to fill our fruit bowl with these family favourites.
After floods wiped out the Queensland crop at the beginning of the year banana prices immediately went sky high in the fruit-shops and supermarkets.
$15 per kilo has been the average price for months now.
We had been paying around a dollar just for one single small banana not so long back.
Well today as I did my weekly grocery shopping, I was just in time to see these very ripe bananas being marked down to a mere $2 a bag - so I grabbed them to bring home for baking cakes and freezing :-D
Thank You Lord!!
I have plans for these beauties..starting with breakfast tomorrow!

Bananas are this week's Simple Pleasures for me!!

Simple Pleasures~ My street today

Looking down my street today..
I see the welcome colours of the new season softly skirting our mountain.

All along the footpath..
Golden Wattle and ornamental fruit trees have suddenly burst into flower!
Across the neighbourhood..
delicate pink and white blossoms span blue sky while basking in the warm sun.

In my front yard..
daffodils and blue star flowers are re-forming a coronet around the old clay birdbath.
The scarlet Ornamental Quince is shining bright and lush behind my letterbox.

Lovely Spring.. welcome Spring.. is here at last.
Thanks be to God!

Simple Pleasures~ Hanging out the washing

Blue wrens dart about the arching canes of the creamy Banksia rose.
Buds on the peach tree are turning pink and full with promise.
The sun is shining warm and soothing on my back...
making today's chore of hanging out the washing a real delight!

Next door the voices of blonde-haired cherubs are singing..
"Bo----b the Builder
can we fix it?
Yes we can!"

They have made a shopfront from cardboard boxes on the deck
and are doing their best to sell wares to their loyal customer!

"Mum.. would you like to buy something from our shop?"

She plays her part of course, much to their giggling relief and enjoyment.

The morning ambles along ..
a light breeze is fluttering the towels and waving through the grass.
Laundry is drying.
Life is good and I am content.

Simple Pleasures~ Wrens

Who's that peeping through my window?!!

He's there every morning lately.

Picking delicacies from the glass and screen.

Delighting me with his beauty and agility!
One of the highlights of my day is watching the blue wren families darting about our house and garden.
The speed at which they scrurry up the windows, fluffy wings a-flapping madly and tiny feet dancing on the glass, always makes me smile and feel cheery!
Not the easiest bird to photograph - they always seem to be full of activity and busy-ness.

Falafel balls and Hummus with Basil and Pine-nut Pesto.
Today's lunch!!
Simple and delicious..and healthy as far as I know, lol!

My hubby and I are trying to be good and eat a healthier diet these days.
This week's worrying episode with our friend landing in hospital after a heart attack, has made us more determined to take bettter care of ourselves.
Thank you to all who prayed for Philip!
He is back home and on blood-thinning meds and must take things easy for a while.
Turns out, he'd had 2 heart attacks over the weekend and if he'd had a 3rd one it would have been fatal.
Praise God, he got help in time!

Simple Pleasures~ Eggs

A perfectly sculpted orb suspended in a coiled silver ring.

Mmmm..that's my breakfast!
Simplicity and pure pleasure.
Whatever way they come - brown white soft hard hot or cold.
I enjoy my boiled eggs.
The Woodman and I will be getting some chooks when the weather warms up in a couple of months time (it's still winter here in Australia) and we're looking forward to having fresh organic eggs to collect from our own backyard!

Simple Pleasures~ a faded photo

Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah,
and he married Rebekah.
So she became his wife and he loved her;
and Isaac was comforted... Gen 24:67

The gently-fading presence of a small and precious picture
causes me to stop and pray again.
As I gaze back through the window of our happiness and love
and see the blossoming of it's fragile seed,
I recall sweet invocations of my heart for my beloved
and my desire to be all for him!
For to him and in his eyes,
I am still the Rebekah of his choosing,
but I often wonder, do I comfort my Isaac as he so rightly deserves?
And like Sarah long before me..
do I give him proper honour as my husband and love him as my lord?
I pray for grace to answer, "Yes!" and always may it be!!
For though the years may pass away and photos dim with age..
still, angels take up their instruements to play,
when I am in his arms.

Simple Pleasures ~Blue Shadows

Shadow on my old blue chair.. cast it's shape all banded warm and quiet.

Gazing at the sill.. I watched as indigo and cobalt  glistened in the light.

Was this the source?

From whence the sunbeams ran their shadow course?

Or was the blue beyond the glass on Icebergs..
eating red of rose-hips with delight!
