My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will look up. Psa 5:3
~~~~~
The people in all lines of duty who do the most work are the calmest, most unhurried people in the community. Duties never wildly chase each other in their lives.
One task never crowds another out, nor ever compels hurried and therefore imperfect doing.
The calm spirit works methodically, doing one thing at a time, and doing it well, and it therefore works swiftly, though never appearing to be in haste.
We need the peace of God in our heart just as really for the doing well of the little things of our secular life as for the doing of the greatest duties of Christ’s kingdom.
Our face ought to shine, and our spirit ought to be tranquil, and our eye ought to be clear, and our nerves ought to be steady, as we press through the tasks of our commonest day.
Then we shall do them all well, slurring nothing, marring nothing.
We want heart-peace before we begin any day’s duties, and we should wait at Christ’s feet ere we go forth. J R Miller
Lord, forgive me for not always coming to wait at Your feet before I start my days.
For not always seeking Your face first,
not listening to Your voice first.
For trying to go into the day relying on my own strength and not seeking Yours.
For getting caught up in the rush of the day as soon as my eyes open.
Help me dear Lord, to remember You in my waking moments,
to ponder Your love for me and provision for all the new day's undertakings.
My own good intentions so often let me down,
for I trust too much in my own power to execute them.
Grant me the grace I need to do Your will throughout this day, O Lord
for I confess my emptiness and am not ashamed to say how much I need Thee!
I need thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
no tender voice like thine can peace afford.
I need thee every hour; stay thou nearby;
temptations lose their power when thou art nigh.
I need thee every hour, in joy or pain;
come quickly and abide, or life is vain.
I need thee every hour; teach me thy will;
and thy rich promises in me fulfill.
I need thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me thine indeed, thou blessed Son.
I need thee, O I need thee;
every hour I need thee;
O bless me now, my Savior, I come to thee.
Dear friend, if perhaps -like me- you have some area in need of mending today,
