In a Jam

Not me lol! But these babies will be, sometime this week :-)
These are some of the small fruit from our dessert pear tree which are very nice and crunchy to eat, but apparently also make a good jam.
At my husbands request, I shall endeavour to cook and bottle them over the next few days.

Being from our garden they don't look quite as 'perfect' as the ones on the grocer's shelves but I'm sure they're just as delicious!

This is a photo of the pear tree in Spring.
It's very tall and my hubby is planning to prune it down to a more 'reachable' height once it stops fruiting.
Well, my list for Hearts for Home this week include:
1. The jam-making.
2. Continuing with the de-cluttering which has brought to light many things besides how much 'stuff' we have. It's been good for the soul too, but I admit it's really stretching me right now :-)
3. Prepare for my husband's cousin who is coming to stay for the weekend.
4. Try to keep a gentle spirit. Especially toward my neighbours who are really wonderful, but whose chooks keep waking me up as their coop has been placed on the fenceline under our bedroom window :-(
Actually, the chooks seem to like being here and keep flying over the fence into our garden and even come inside our house if the door is left open lol!!

Well all the babies are as big as Mama chook now, and they're still trying to picnic in my wheelbarrow :-D
I hope you are having a wonderful week at home my friends.

  1. Hi Trish,

I think your new blog title is wonderful, and your blog page is beautifully designed. Photography is a hobby of mine, and
I have to say that the pictures that you have posted look professional.

Those are the most beautiful pears I've seen with the variations in color. The photo of the pear tree is pretty, and since I love!!! animals, and flowers so much, the wheelbarrow with the Mama and baby hen is priceless.

    God bless you,
    Michele

  2. Hi Tish,I hope the chooks leave you some eggs to make up for keeping you awake and playing in the wheelbarrow. Maybe I'll have to send you some ear-plugs.
Hope the jam making goes well. I'm thinking pear jam with a touch of ginger sounds wonderful.
    God bless

  5. Trish, I love your new look and new name! At first I thought those were apples. They look cute--can pears be cute?? I'm sure they'll make a yummy jam. It certainly is fun to read spring/summer things here in wintertime. :)

    Blessings,
    Christine

  6. So much fun to watch other parts of the world in another season...while we are suppose to have snow tomorrow. Oh the chickens...too funny! I live in a very crowded neighborhood, where you can see in your neighbors house...so for us it is those huge dogs barking.
Have a great week...the pears look wonderful!

  7. Are they leaving you treasures? :)

What joy to see the beautiful blossoms when it is so cold and frosty here in the mountains...thank you for the refreshing reminder that Spring is really on its way!

  8. Ohhh where do you live my SSiC ( Sweet Sister in Christ)? We have so much snow right now it is hard to imagine harvesting pears right now. *grin* But I do know what you mean by needing to make jam. I need to use up all the fruit I froze to make jam in my freezer. And also I can relate to your feelings of de-cluttering. ((sigh)) It is tiring but as you said it is freeing too.

I actually think your pears are prettier than what you see in the store. I like it when fruit is more real looking. We have several fruit trees on the land and I know what they look like. (worm holes and all. [0=)

Praying you can find some kind of answer for your chicken issue. Did I understand you have some too? I really hope we can get our chicken coop built this year. ( it might also be a goat barn too. [0=)

    Blessings and ((HUGS))

  9. they look beautiful! My mother had a pear tree growing just outside of her bedroom window in two of the houses we lived in. In the house she is in now though she does not. I've never tried making jam with it. Sounds good.

  10. Dear Trish,
I love jam making but pears are not my favourites. I love apricot and plum the best.
I love blossoms on trees don't you? and I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your guest.
    Many blessings dear friend

  11. Trish,

I'm sure the pears from your tree will taste even more juicy and delicious than the ones found in the grocery store. :)

I've never had pear jam before. I wish I could sample some of your jam. I'm sure it would be so goody-goody. My favorite breakfast is toast with jam (blueberry and blackberry are my favorites) with a side of orange juice.

    Take care.

  12. Dear Trish,
Oh, my, I'm a little jealous! All I see out my windows right now is snow, snow, snow! Well, and ice on the ocean. Pear jam sounds wonderful...I've never tried that since we don't have any pear trees...just apples and berries galore!

Love your chick story...our hens do not care for the snow at all! Our poor rhode island red rooster sounds like a sick loon when he crows...it's quite sad indeed.

I, too, like your new title...as we like to say around here...the simpler the better!

    Have a blessed evening,
    Laura
